Have your say as a young person living in Launceston!

City of Launceston's Youth Engagement Framework is up for review and if you are aged between 12 to 25 years, we would love to hear from you. Providing input will ensure that your voice as a young person living in and around Launceston, is at the heart of policies, strategies, services and activities developed for you.

This consultation is currently ongoing. Your feedback from previous engagement has been reviewed and we would like to understand a bit more to ensure the updated Youth Framework is entirely reflective of our young people!

The Youth Engagement Framework provides a strategic approach to the City of Launceston’s youth engagement in order to ensure that young people’s diverse views, experiences and needs are valued and incorporated into the strategic planning. This in turn will ensure that young people are at the centre of the policies, strategies, services and activities that are developed for them.

The Youth Engagement Framework explains how we engage young people aged 12 to 25 who live, learn, work and visit Launceston in the social, economic, and civic opportunities of the region.

Youth Advisory Group (YAG)

The City of Launceston Youth Advisory Group (YAG for short!) is a program for young people aged 12-25, looking for mentorship and skill development across a range of fields.

YAG is a key link between youth living within Launceston and the City of Launceston - helping to guide decisions across our city that primarily impact immediate and future generations of youth in Launceston.

YAG originated in 1997 and has been a highly sought after annual program for students looking to network within the Launceston community, develop their skills and broaden their learning opportunities while in high school or college.

Each year YAG students are involved in a range of projects, designed to offer in-depth industry experience. Running for four terms throughout the school year, YAG offers fantastic learning opportunities for students through a range of industry topics.

YAG boasts an exciting line-up of annual guest speakers, project involvement opportunities and tailored learning themes throughout the year, including;

  • Marketing
  • Event Planning
  • Project Management
  • Grant Management
  • Council Decision Making: behind the scenes
  • Sustainability
  • Community Engagement: what is it, and why is it important?
  • Concept Pitch Development

Throughout the year guest speakers will include Councillors, City of Launceston staff and business operators from across Launceston - offering great industry insights while also creating an extra added layer of knowledge to the YAG learning experience.

YAG members meet fortnightly on a Monday from 4.15pm - 5.15pm.

If you are between 12 and 25 and have a passion for change, have your voice heard and assist Launceston to become a more inclusive, youth led and liveable city.

YAG is for people who want to:

  1. Develop their leadership and event management skills
  2. Get involved in the community and with Council
  3. Learn how to work on a committee
  4. Have their voice heard!

If you are aged between 12 and 25 you can register your interest to join YAG here!

If you have any queries or questions, reach out to the City of Launceston Youth Development Officer.
