Safer Travel Through Invermay – Intersection Works Finished

The City of Launceston has upgraded the intersection of Invermay Road and Lindsay Street, replacing the former roundabout with signalised traffic lights to enhance safety and connectivity for all road users.

The project was delivered in three distinct work zones by Crossroads Civil Contracting, with construction commencing in January 2025 and completed in June 2025.

This upgrade provides significant improvements to the Invermay area, addressing previous concerns around pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Details of each work zone are outlined below.

  • Zone 1 - Invermay Road/ Lindsay Street

We upgraded the Invermay Road/ Lindsay Street intersection from a roundabout to signalised traffic lights. Key features of the design include:

    • Remove roundabout and install traffic lights
    • realign and install new kerb and channel
    • rehabilitate asphalt roadway and construct a raised intersection
    • install new access ramps and traffic islands
    • improve stormwater drainage at the intersection
    • upgrade street lighting
  • Zone 2 - Tamar Street/ Boland Street

We changed kerb and channel alignments, adjusted traffic lanes and coordinating traffic lights at the Tamar/Boland intersection.

  • Zone 3 - Invermay Road pavement reconstruction

We reconstructed 250m of failed pavement on the left-hand southbound lane of Invermay Road, between Bedford and Lindsay Streets.
