Thank you to everyone who participated in the City of Launceston's LGBTIQA+ Community Survey.
This survey played a key role in the development of the City of Launceston's first LGBTIQA+ Action Plan (the Plan) that was recently endorsed by Councillors.
The Plan aims to celebrate and support the diversity, resilience and strength of LGBTIQA+ people in Launceston.
It aims to enhance safety, visibility, inclusion, prosperity and equitable access to services, participation and wellbeing, fostering a community where all people can thrive and belong. It also aims to reduce stigma, discrimination and psychological distress experienced by LGBTIQA+ people.

How we got here
The City of Launceston LGBTIQA+ Action Plan is primarily informed by the 600 responses received from our 2025 LGBTIQA+ Community Survey, and BY the 1,011 responses to the research project on LGBTIQA+ Inclusion in Launceston.
Other research findings that informed this Action Plan include*:
- LGBTIQA+ Tasmanians report poorer health and life satisfaction than the general population.
- Regional communities can experience greater isolation and fewer support services.
- LGBTIQA+ Tasmanians are more likely to have lower incomes, work casually or be unemployed, rent rather than own their own homes, and experience housing stress.
- Positive visibility and connection contribute to improved wellbeing and resilience.
