Update on the Draft Carr Villa Masterplan

15 June 2025

Over the past 12 months, we’ve heard from many of you, and we thank everyone who shared their thoughts, particularly during the recent consultation on the development of the draft Carr Villa Memorial Park Masterplan.

We’re pleased to share that a final Masterplan will be presented to Council for endorsement at the 19 June 2025 Council Meeting. The Masterplan and Council report can be found at the City of Launceston website, as part of the agenda for the meeting.

This plan is the result of extensive community input, expert advice, and a shared commitment to preserving what matters most. It does not seek to elevate one set of values above another but instead guides a respectful and balanced approach that upholds Carr Villa’s role as Launceston’s principal cemetery, while strengthening its environmental stewardship and cultural relevance for generations to come.

The result is a long-term, forward-thinking strategy, a Masterplan that provides certainty around future interment capacity, outlines enhancements to visitor comfort and accessibility, and proposes thoughtful ways to protect and enhance the site’s natural and cultural values.

Thank you for being part of this important conversation.
