George Street Dining Deck Trial Update - Conclusion of Trial

9 April 2025

The City of Launceston, in partnership with hospitality businesses has been trialling the installation of dining decks (also known as parklets) along George Street - between Cameron and Brisbane Streets.

The dining decks temporarily repurpose part of the road corridor, providing an outdoor dining space for hospitality businesses. They help create a more vibrant public space, encourage slower traffic, and invite people to spend more time in the area.

The George Street Dining Trial commenced in December 2024 and officially concluded at the end of March 2025.

We would like to thank you for your feedback and contributions throughout the trial period and take this opportunity to provide a brief update on the next steps.

Current update/next steps:
  • A range of data has been collected as part of the trial, including community-wide feedback, traffic and speed counts, parking activity, and spend data. This information will be used to inform a comprehensive evaluation of the trial, which will be presented to Councillors in May to assist in determining the future steps.
  • The dining decks will remain in place during the evaluation process.
